Known for her breathtaking and bravura physical performances, Caruso returns to London with Counterpoint of Chaos, a bold new solo dance work exploring the rapidly evolving relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence.

In a fierce and visually striking theatrical dance experience Caruso asks urgent questions about authorship, identity, and autonomy in a world where artificial intelligence increasingly shapes human decisions and creativity. Counterpoint of Chaos looks at the evolving relationship between human agency and technological influence. Caruso is renowned as a hypnotic performer both technically and physically, and in this new work her entire body transfixes with her organic phrasing and machine-coded precision, manifesting the tension between instinct and algorithm - and ultimately the conscious integration between human and machine.

Caruso says of her new work “Counterpoint of Chaos explores the tension between control and surrender in a world being shaped by technology. I’ve been working with AI almost like a mirror, as it reflects ideas back to me, questions choices, and helps me see the work from outside myself. It’s not replacing creativity; it’s provoking it. At its core, the show is about reclaiming agency and finding a conscious relationship with the tools we create. “My husband is a globally recognized biotechnology scientist and a leader in artificial intelligence‑driven medical innovation - so conversations over the dinner table have certainly had some influence on Counterpoint of Chaos!”

Composer Ryan Onestak’s original score is entirely human composed to progress from analog warmth to high-definition precision, to harmonic coexistence between human and technological expression – or is it?

Pittsburgh USA is the home of modern contemporary dance, being the birthplace of both Martha Graham and Gene Kelly – and Maria Caruso. Born and bred in Pittsburgh, Caruso is the Founding Director of her professional dance company Bodiography Contemporary Ballet, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2027. Bodiography’s studios are housed in Gene Kelly’s original dance studio space; and Caruso is one of the few artists outside of Graham’s company to have been given permissions to perform Lamentations – all making for a beautiful Pittsburgh contemporary dance synergy.

Maria Caruso will be giving a Masterclass at Salford University (26/05, 1000hrs), a preview performance in Salerno, Italy (28/05), and the World Premiere of Counterpoint of Chaos in London’s West End on Sunday 31 May, so begins the work’s global touring life, starting in South America in August. Whilst in Brazil Caruso will also be creating a new ballet for the renowned Cisne Negro Cia de Dança, perform the duet Cálice as a guest artist and teach community classes at Dom Bosco, the social arts organization she has supported for many years.

As with all of Maria Caruso’s major projects, Counterpoint of Chaos is a live theatrical experience and becomes a cinematic property on premium digital channels, giving access beyond traditional performance audiences. Still top of her game as a performer, Maria Caruso is also a Professor of Dance - specializing in Pedagogy at La Roche University; and in true Caruso style supporting her passion for cultural learning, she is setting up a major educational initiative across the USA for thousands of students, with special educational screenings in cinemas of Counterpoint of Chaos followed by live in person/online discussion with Caruso.

A rare opportunity to see Maria Caruso’s elite dance athleticism in the World Premiere of Counterpoint of Chaos in the heart of London’s West End at His Majesty’s Theatre on Sunday 31 May 2026 at 7pm.

Counterpoint of Chaos is produced by M-Train Productions. General Management by Aria Entertainment.
